What does the word liturgy mean?
The word "liturgy" originally meant a "public work" or a "service in the name of/on behalf of the people." In Christian tradition it means the participation of the People of God in "the work of God." Through the liturgy Christ, our redeemer and high priest, continues the work of our redemption in, with, and through his Church. CCC 1069
Every member of St. Matthias is invited to share in this "public work" by serving in one of our liturgical ministries. Whether you are blessed with an angelic voice or have a warm friendly smile, there is a role for you in our liturgy. Prayerfully consider if God is calling you to be a lector, eucharistic minister, server, usher, greeter, cantor or musician and contact one of liturgy chairs below for more information on how you can become involved.

The Music Ministry’s mission attempts to serve the Gospel and give praise to God, have concern for people at its center, contribute to the ongoing conversion of the congregation and the musicians, and strive for the highest quality possible.
The love of music is the first and foremost qualification. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a necessity. Ability to sing (carry a tune) is required and a willingness to commit to participate in weekly rehearsals and a weekend Liturgy with the singer or musician’s chosen choir. There usually is one rehearsal per week, per music group, varying in length from 60-90 minutes.
Contemporary Music Group rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:00 P.M.
**Anyone interested in participating on a less regular schedule can make arrangements with the group’s director
